U3A Art Appreciation started from humble beginnings and blossomed into a warm, friendly and interactive group.  We aim to extend our knowledge through studying a varied programme.  Last year we began with Cranach, a German master painter, and moved onto Sir Anthony Van Dyck, the image maker.  We discussed the "From Russia " exhibition and went on to the Cezannes at the Courtauld Institute, finishing with Byzantium.

This year, on February 5th we had a demonstration of colourful mixed media art by Mary Hainline, a local artist from Bramley.  There was a good turn out considering the weather and everyone enjoyed the demonstration.  This will be followed on March 5th by an illustrated talk on Arthur Knighton-Hammond, described by Augustus John as one of the major British painters of this country. The talk will be given by his daughter Mary Jopp.

On April 9th Carol Cordrey will talk about the Pre-Raphaelites.

We meet on the first Thursday of the month from 10.00am till 11.30am in the Agnes Conisbee Room at East Horsley Village Hall - I look forward to seeing you there.
