Art Appreciation

 U3A Art Appreciation started from humble beginnings and blossomed into a warm, friendly and interactive group.  We aim to extend our knowledge through studying a varied programme.  Last year we began with Cranach, a German master painter, and moved onto Sir Anthony Van Dyck, the image maker.  We discussed the "From Russia " exhibition and went on to the Cezannes at the Courtauld Institute, finishing with Byzantium.

This year, on February 5^th we had a demonstration of colourful mixed media art by Mary Hainline, a local artist from Bramley.  There was a good turn out considering the weather and everyone enjoyed the demonstration.  This will be followed on March 5^th by an illustrated talk on Arthur Knighton-Hammond, described by Augustus John as one of the major British painters of this country. The talk will be given by his daughter Mary Jopp. 

On April 9^th Carol Cordrey will talk about the Pre-Raphaelites.

We meet on the first Thursday of the month from 10.00am till 11.30am in the Agnes Conisbee Room at East Horsley Village Hall - I look forward to seeing you there.
