Astronomy Group: Future Programme

May: Now changed: I have arranged for a viewing session with Neil Phillipson of Astronomia on Thursday May 10th at 8.00 p.m. at Newlands Corner, with a possible fall back to May 24th.  I hope you can make it and we have a clear evening. We should know during the day if the weather will be reasonable. If it looks hopeless I will email everybody about lunchtime on the day and we will rearrange for the 24th.

June 21 - longest day: Gas giants - Jupiter, Saturn and their almost 100 moons. Update on Cassini spacecraft.

July -- If sufficient interest a daytime visit to the Royal Observatory, 
Greenwich

August 10 Friday Visit to an Open evening at Herstmonceux (Sussex) to 
see the Perseids meteor shower 8pm-12.30am - Three telescopes to look 
through (Admission £6.10) Alternatively August 11 Shooting star supper 
(7.30-midnight - £17.95)

@@@@ Viewing Tip : Saturn is now clearly visible to the southeast, rising from aboutr 11 p.m.

 

On Thursday 16th March 2012, we were treated to some exciting pictures of galaxies taken with the Hubble telescope, pictures of eclipses, and aurora borealis.  We talked about sun spots, black holes and dark matter, the speed of light and life on other planets.
