French Conversation
Some of the Group at a June 2011 meeting
This group meets to chat in French and develop its conversational ability through practice in a supportive and uncritical atmosphere. We do not usually have a planned theme, as part of the fun is to see how our conversation develops - just as we would do if we were a group of friends chatting in English. But from time to time we do some reading and translation, or a few exercises, to develop our knowledge of vocabulary and expressions. There is no formal teaching - we help each other, and often have the benefit of the presence of a francophone member who can help us with our accent and pronunciation.
It is surprising how the French we learned at school comes back with a bit of practice and a growth in confidence. There is no standard you have to meet to join the group - you simply need to know some French and be interested in using it.
We normally meet every other Tuesday at 2.30pm. Members take it in turns to host the meeting in their homes, but it is not necessary to do this to be a member.
The group would welcome a few more members. You do not have to come to every session.
The group leader and contact for enquiries is Pauline Eaton. Please contact her on 01483 222585 or by email at pauline.eaton@talk21.com
