Creative Writing

The ‘Creative Writing’ group arose from a meeting of all those who expressed an interest in writing.  While some preferred to concentrate on their memoirs (see the Memoir Writing group), we decided that writing fiction would be more interesting and enjoyable.  Following some guidance from Peter Dillow and conversations with members of similar U3A groups in Guildford and Dorking we have so far evolved a pattern of writing 500 – 800 words on a particular theme for each meeting.  These ‘stories’ and indeed poems are shared and discussed. We are considering the production, in due course, of an anthology of our work.  In addition, each member picks a subject to research and then presents their findings at a subsequent meeting.  We also discuss favourite authors and their writing styles.

We are an open-minded, relaxed and congenial group which will be looking to step up its membership as the year progresses. We are all clear that meetings have to be both stimulating and fun.  We currently meet in member’s homes on the first Thursday afternoon of each month and welcome a call or e-mail from anyone  interested in joining.
