A Roll-up group which makes use of the outdoor Boules pitch at the Horsley Sports Club--- equipment provided. Basic Rules below. Anyone who knows the rules especially welcome!
- The game is played between two teams of 1, 2 or 3 players. For singles or doubles with 2 players in each team play with 2 or 3 boules each as agreed by the players. If there are three players in each team 2 boules each. There is a blue plastic circle which goes at each end of the boules pitch and it is from that the cochonnet and boules are thrown. Both feet must stay together on the ground and within the circle while throwing and until the boule has landed. Although rarely practiced in friendly games, it’s good to know this rule in case your French opponents want to make the game more serious!
- To decide the player or team to start play the cochonnet (small ball) is thrown by one player and one from each team throw a boule. The player who throws their boule nearest to the cochonnet starts the game.
- The games starts by throwing the cochonnet between 4m and 8m, or 6 paces from the circle in any direction. It must not be closer than 1m from any obstacle or you have to throw again.
- A player from the other team then steps into the circle. Their goal is to throw a boule closer to the cochonnet than their opponent. Or to knock the opponent’s boule away. You must throw within 1 minute of your turn starting.
- The winner or winning team starts the new round.
